The Civil Guard arrested two individuals in Anchuelo after being caught stealing copper cable from the AVE tracks. The intervention took place around midnight on Wednesday.

The Civil Guard carried out an operation that resulted in the arrest of two men in Anchuelo, accused of attempting to steal copper cable belonging to the AVE tracks. The police action took place around midnight on Wednesday, when officers patrolling the area detected suspicious lights near the M-213 road, adjacent to the railway line. Upon approaching the location, the officers found a parked vehicle and the two men handling the cable and causing damage to the perimeter fence protecting the railway infrastructure. During the search of the vehicle, tools such as shears, levers, and gloves were found, which reinforced suspicions about their criminal intentions. The detainees face charges of attempted theft and could face severe penalties if convicted. Such crimes are not isolated; the theft of materials like copper has increased in recent years due to its high value on the black market. In 2022, more than 1,500 similar incidents were reported in Spain alone, prompting authorities to intensify preventive and operational measures to protect critical infrastructures such as railways. The Civil Guard has urged citizens to remain vigilant about suspicious activities in their communities and has reminded them that any information can be crucial in preventing such crimes. The legal consequences for those attempting to steal essential materials can include significant fines and custodial sentences that vary depending on the severity of the crime committed.
