An Unprecedented Technological Deployment

The arrival of Pope León XIV in Spain, scheduled from June 6 to 12, will mark a milestone in the history of communications during papal events. Telefónica, the telecommunications giant, has announced that it will be the main operator responsible for ensuring connectivity during this pastoral tour, which will cover cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Gran Canaria, and Tenerife.

Through an official statement, Telefónica has detailed its plan to optimize its technological infrastructure. The company is committed to providing a “unprecedented” network that ensures stable, high-quality connectivity for both the papal team and the thousands of attendees and professionals involved in organizing the event.

The plan includes the reinforcement and optimization of over 1,300 network points, allowing attendees, volunteers, and media to enjoy reliable service throughout the Pope's stay. This effort reflects Telefónica's ongoing commitment to significant international events.

They will not only improve the existing infrastructure; four mobile units equipped with 5G technology and ten satellite backpacks will also be deployed in strategic locations. This is crucial given the expected large influx of people who will be using their mobile devices intensively to communicate.

To ensure optimal operation, Telefónica will send a special team of over 60 technicians dedicated exclusively to monitoring operations in real-time from the National Supervision and Operation Centre (CNSO) located in Madrid. This team will be prepared to intervene immediately if any technical issues arise.

As the event date approaches, it is clear that Telefónica is taking all necessary measures to guarantee not only a smooth experience but also a safe one during this historic visit. With an innovative and proactive approach, the company aims to set a new standard in telecommunications during international religious events.
