Joint operation against drug trafficking
The Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport became the scene of a successful anti-drug operation that resulted in the arrest of two individuals from Lima, who were attempting to smuggle over 14 kilos of cocaine into Spain. The intervention, carried out on May 7, was made possible thanks to the collaboration between the Guardia Civil and the Customs Surveillance Service, after receiving a crucial tip-off from French customs authorities.
The initial alert was generated during a layover in Paris, where French officials detected a suspicious substance in the checked luggage of the two detainees. A preliminary analysis confirmed it was cocaine, prompting Spanish authorities to activate a special operation to intercept the suspects upon their arrival in Madrid.
Under a scheme of controlled delivery, authorized by court order, an operation was established involving both agents from the Customs Surveillance Service and the Fiscal and Border Unit. This strategy not only allowed for the identification of the traffickers but also ensured the seizure of the narcotic before it could be distributed in the Spanish market.
The Guardia Civil highlighted the importance of joint work between French and Spanish law enforcement, emphasizing that this operation is a clear example of the shared commitment to combat drug trafficking. The effective coordination among different police bodies has proven to be essential in dismantling criminal networks operating at an international level.
