A fire near the train tracks has left thousands of users without service between Getafe and Parla. Renfe warns of delays on line C-4 with no estimated time for resumption.
The Cercanías C-4 line, which connects Getafe and Parla with Madrid, is out of service due to a fire declared on Wednesday near the tracks. Although the fire did not directly affect the railway infrastructure, its proximity has forced Renfe to suspend train operations between both towns, causing significant delays for the thousands of travellers who rely on this mode of transport daily.
The incident occurred in an area known as Getafe Sector 3, where the fire originated. Adif, the entity responsible for managing railway infrastructure in Spain, confirmed that the fire was unrelated to the tracks and did not cause direct damage. However, this has not prevented trains from being affected by the preventive measures taken.
Users have reported long waits and congestion throughout the C-4 line, a crucial route for those travelling to Madrid from the south. The situation is particularly complicated during peak hours, when passenger volume is higher. So far, Renfe has not provided an estimated time for fully restoring service.
Such incidents are not new in the history of Spanish rail transport. In 2019, a similar event also caused significant disruptions on this same line due to a nearby forest fire. Authorities have urged travellers to seek alternatives while this situation is resolved.
As the day progresses, many passengers are opting to use buses or private vehicles to reach their destinations. For those who need to urgently travel between Getafe and Parla, it is recommended to check available alternative routes or consider other public transport lines until service on the C-4 is normalised.
