The Government of the Community of Madrid has decided to suspend the service of five intercity lines due to active wildfires. Nine buses have been mobilised to assist in evacuations.
The Community of Madrid has temporarily suspended the service of five intercity lines (541, 545, 546, 547 and 548) starting from Friday, as a safety measure in response to the wildfires affecting the region. This decision aims to protect citizens and facilitate emergency operations in the most affected areas.
According to a statement from the regional government, nine buses from the Regional Transport Consortium (CRTM) have been deployed to assist emergency services. These vehicles are intended to evacuate and transport residents who are at risk due to the critical situation caused by the fire.
In localities such as Villamanta and Navas del Rey, four and three buses have been mobilised respectively, ready to act if it is necessary to reinforce evacuations or address new transport demands. In Pelayos de la Presa, two buses are already operational carrying out evacuations as per the instructions of the operation.
The Ministry of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure has assured that these vehicles will be available to intervene quickly as the situation evolves. The suspension of service will also affect other municipalities such as Cenicientos and Villa del Prado during this weekend.
Wildfires are not a new phenomenon in the region; similar incidents were recorded in the summer of 2021 that led to the temporary closure of routes and public services. However, this time the response seems to be quicker thanks to better coordination between public services and emergency teams.
