Starting from the beginning of the new LaLiga season, the Los Espartales metro station in Getafe will change its name to Los Espartales-Coliseum. This change aims to facilitate access for Getafe CF fans.
The Community of Madrid has decided to rename the Los Espartales metro station to Los Espartales-Coliseum, a modification that will take effect with the start of the new football season. This decision responds to a long-standing demand from the City Council and the Getafe CF Supporters Federation, who have requested for years that the name of the stadium be included in the stop most used by fans on match days.
The responsible councillor, Jorge Rodrigo, expressed his satisfaction in announcing this change: "Today is a day to be very happy and above all to congratulate the supporters and all the Getafe fans because they have achieved it." The new name will not only facilitate the identification of the station closest to the Coliseum, but will also include special decor designed in collaboration with the club. This decoration will feature representative elements of the team and references to its fans, even including the lyrics of the anthem on the stairs.
The Coliseum has been described by Rodrigo as "much more than a stadium"; it is an important symbol for the supporters of the blue team and is an integral part of the local identity. With this change, it is expected that both locals and visitors will be able to enjoy a more immersive experience when using public transport to one of the most emblematic places in Getafe.
Additionally, this modification will involve updates to all signage related to the metro, as well as changes to audio announcements and information maps within the system. The Community has assured that all these works will begin just before the official start of its use under the new name.
This is not the only change recently announced by Metro de Madrid. It has also been confirmed that the Sierra de Guadalupe station will be renamed Sierra de Guadalupe-Universidad, highlighting its proximity to the South Campus of the Polytechnic University. This modification will be effective in the coming weeks.
In previous years, Metro had already made other significant changes to its stations to improve their identification. Examples include the renaming of Metropolitano to Vicente Aleixandre or Atocha as Estación del Arte. These initiatives aim not only to modernise the system but also to strengthen the ties between the stations and their local communities.
With these modifications, Metro continues to adapt to the needs and cultural identities of the local areas, offering a service more aligned with citizens' expectations and desires.
