Free Access to Madrid's Pools
The Community of Madrid has launched an attractive initiative that allows young people to enjoy public pools at no cost throughout the summer season. Since 15 May, these facilities have been open and will remain operational until 6 September. This measure is designed to benefit holders of the Carné Joven, who can access several popular pools for free.
Users with the Carné Joven will be able to enjoy free access at three key locations: the pools of Canal de Isabel II, San Vicente de Paúl, and Parque Deportivo Puerta de Hierro. These facilities are open every day from 11:00 to 19:45, but it is important to remember that a prior reservation is required.
Although the offer is tempting, there are certain restrictions. Each user can obtain only one free entry per day, and spaces are limited. Additionally, the Community has implemented a penalty for those who reserve entries and do not show up. If a user does not use two consecutive reservations, they will lose the ability to reserve again for the rest of the summer. Therefore, it is advised to cancel any reservation if it will not be used.
Not all pools offer free access. In particular, the pool at the Centro de Natación Mundial 86 has a different system; here, free access with the Carné Joven is not allowed, but a 20% discount is offered, reducing the entry price to 4 euros.
The standard price for accessing public pools is 5 euros. However, there are significant discounts: a 30% discount for those over 65, children between 3 and 13 years old, and large families. Additionally, individuals with recognised disabilities of 33% or more, their companions, children under three, and victims of terrorism can enter for free.
Tickets can be purchased through the official online portal or using the mobile app DeportesCM. For seniors or users with disabilities, there is also an option to buy at the ticket office from 10:30.
Aside from urban pools, this summer Madrileños have access to four natural areas ideal for swimming: the San Juan reservoir, the Alberche beach, Las Presillas, and Los Villares. These spaces are perfect for those seeking alternatives to urban heat during the weekends.
