An Unprecedented Success in the Capital
This year's Holy Week has marked a milestone in Madrid, where the influx of visitors has exceeded all expectations. According to Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida, the huge number of people arriving in the city has made Madrid the main national tourist destination for these festivities.
Despite the large number of attendees, Almeida emphasized that public services were not overwhelmed. The mayor praised the work done by municipal security and emergency teams, who managed an effective operation that ensured safety during the processions and scheduled events. “The operation responded perfectly to an influx we did not expect to be so massive,” he stated.
The success of this Holy Week is also attributed to the ongoing efforts of local brotherhoods and fraternities, who have worked hard throughout the year to provide a memorable celebration. Almeida highlighted that their dedication has been crucial in showcasing “the best face of the city” during these festive days.
Although final figures are still awaited, Almeida anticipated that the economic impact generated by this influx will be the highest recorded to date. This figure is particularly significant considering the competition with other Spanish tourist destinations, both those oriented towards sun and beach and cities with deep-rooted traditions during this time.
As Madrid positions itself as a leader in religious and cultural tourism during Holy Week, Almeida expressed his pride in achieving this recognition. “It is a reason for us to feel proud,” he concluded, emphasizing the collective effort needed to achieve this success.
