A weekend to remember in Madrid
The Spanish capital is preparing to experience one of the most vibrant weekends of spring with the celebration of San Isidro. From May 14th, Madrid transforms into a cultural stage filled with activities ranging from food fairs to free concerts, offering something for all tastes and ages.
The festivities take place in iconic locations such as San Isidro Park, Las Vistillas, and Plaza Mayor. This year, the programme includes outdoor concerts, family activities, and a variety of traditional proposals that promise to keep the Castilian essence of the event alive. Among the highlighted performances is the presentation by the well-known artist Vicente Calderón, who will delight attendees with his music in San Isidro Park.
One of the highlights of the weekend is the free tasting of the famous cocido madrileño, which will take place this Friday in Carabanchel. Visitors can enjoy it between 14:30 and 16:30, a perfect opportunity to savour this delicious culinary tradition. Additionally, the event Dancing through Madrid, which will start at 11:00 in Puerta del Sol, will feature exhibitions of traditional dances inviting everyone to participate.
Not only will the city centre witness the festive bustle; towns like Las Rozas will host the Great Unpacking, a fair dedicated to antiques with over 150 exhibitors on the 15th and 16th. In Cercedilla, the Fair of Trades and Traditions will allow attendees to explore ancient trades through interactive workshops.
Meanwhile, Alcorcón will celebrate a Celtic Market, where Galician crafts and traditional music will take centre stage. Parla will also join the festivities with its event Tapeando Parla, where numerous restaurants will offer tapas at affordable prices.
Apart from the festive atmosphere, Madrid offers a rich cultural agenda. Exhibitions such as The Empire Strikes Back, focused on the Star Wars universe with over 600 pieces displayed at Espacio Delicias, will attract both fans and curious visitors. The National Archaeological Museum will present What the city hides, exploring Toledo's medieval history.
Unique experiences like the historic trains will not be missed. The popular Strawberry Train, which connects Madrid with Aranjuez, will offer a journey full of history accompanied by local tastings. On the other hand, the Real Club de Campo Villa de Madrid will host this weekend the prestigious international show jumping competition.
