A setback that weighs heavily in the title race

The coach of Real Madrid, Álvaro Arbeloa, has made a strong statement following his team's unexpected defeat to RCD Mallorca by 2-1 in a match corresponding to matchday 30 of LaLiga EA Sports 2025-26. In a press conference held at Son Moix, Arbeloa did not hesitate to take all the blame, stating that this defeat is "totally and absolutely" his.

Despite this setback, the Madrid coach urged his players to focus their attention on the upcoming Champions League match. "What I need is for them to be thinking about Tuesday's game," Arbeloa commented, emphasising the importance of the European commitment against Bayern Munich. The coach stressed that it is crucial for the team to put this defeat behind them and focus on what lies ahead.

Arbeloa also reflected on the implications of this loss in his pursuit of the league title. He acknowledged that the chances have become complicated, but reaffirmed his goal: "We have eight matches left and our next objective is to win all eight remaining games." Despite the challenges, he remained optimistic about his players' potential to turn this situation around.

The coach analysed the reasons behind his team's poor performance during the match. He mentioned factors such as anxiety and a lack of patience against a well-organised Mallorca defence. "Perhaps we didn't have that patience or what we worked on during the week," Arbeloa lamented, who also highlighted that although they had a promising first half, they failed to maintain that level in the second half.

Regarding Jude Bellingham's limited impact during the match, Arbeloa explained that this was expected due to his recent return from injury. "The idea is for him to continue gaining rhythm," he indicated about one of his key players. Additionally, he was questioned about the possible repercussions if FC Barcelona takes this opportunity to distance themselves further in the standings; however, he maintained a firm stance: "I know what my players are capable of."

As a crucial clash against one of the major European rivals approaches, Arbeloa concluded with a clear message: the mindset must change quickly and proper preparation is essential for what is to come. Confident in the unwavering support of the Madrid fans, he expressed his desire to experience another magical night in the Champions League.
