However, Cerezo has chosen a serene and firm response, stating: ‘We do not commit suicide‘.
Cerezo, who has just returned from a trip to Mexico, appeared calm in the face of his Madrid counterpart's words. Although he admitted not being fully aware of the exact content of the statements, he made it clear that Atlético de Madrid is satisfied with its performance this season. Despite not having won major titles, the red-and-white president highlighted that the team has been present in decisive moments and has competed at the highest level.
‘We have been in the final of the Copa del Rey, in the semifinals of the Champions League, and we are close to finishing in the top three in La Liga’, Cerezo emphasized. This perspective contrasts with the tense atmosphere currently surrounding Madrid.
A fundamental part of Atlético's institutional success lies in the figure of Diego Pablo Simeone. The Argentine coach remains a key pillar for the club and has Cerezo's full backing. Despite the criticisms received during the season, Cerezo defended that reaching European semifinals and competing until the end demonstrates the team's competitive strength.
