A tribute to the history of football

Correos has decided to pay tribute to Spain's rich football tradition by issuing a new commemorative stamp. This release, which includes 65,000 units, is intended to honour four iconic clubs that have left an indelible mark on the national sport: Real Oviedo, Rayo Vallecano, Celta de Vigo, and Real Murcia.

The initiative is part of a philatelic series dedicated to sport, specifically under the theme of centenary teams. These clubs not only represent the passion for football but also serve as cultural and social symbols of their respective cities. Real Oviedo, for example, is a pillar in Asturias; Rayo Vallecano is synonymous with the Madrid neighbourhood of Vallecas; Celta de Vigo stands out as a representative of Galicia; and Real Murcia is an undeniable emblem for the Region of Murcia.

The official event to present this stamp will take place at the Carlos Tartiere stadium, where a large turnout of fans and personalities from the sports world is expected. The president of Real Oviedo, Martín Peláez Álvarez, will be one of the hosts alongside Nuria Lera Hervás, director of Philately and Institutional Relations at Correos. Together they will unveil the design that immortalises the colours and history of the Asturian club.

This is not the first time that Correos has used its stamps as a means to preserve Spanish sporting memory. Through these small artistic works, the aim is to keep alive the history and sporting achievements that have contributed to shaping the social identity of the country. Philately thus becomes a vehicle to remember sporting feats and celebrate local traditions.

This release will not only attract collectors passionate about stamps but also fervent supporters of these historic teams. The combination of sport and philately offers a unique opportunity to connect past generations with the current ones, ensuring that the stories behind each club endure over time.

Qué buena iniciativa de Correos. Este tipo de emisiones mantienen viva la historia del fútbol español y conectan a los aficionados con la memoria de sus clubes.
