Innovation in Spanish refereeing
This weekend, LaLiga and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) will take a significant step towards modernising the king of sports in Spain. In an effort to improve the viewer experience and increase transparency during matches, a pilot test incorporating micro-cameras in the main referees will be implemented.
The matches chosen for this innovative initiative are the clash between Valencia CF and Deportivo Alavés, scheduled for Sunday, March 8 at 21:00, and the duel between RCD Espanyol and Real Oviedo, which will take place on Monday 9 at the same time. The referees appointed for these matches will be announced shortly before each game.
Although the images and audio captured by these micro-cameras will not be broadcast during the matches, LaLiga and the RFEF have emphasised that this is a technical trial with a view to future broadcasts. The objective is clear: to bring fans closer to the reality of the game, allowing for a closer view of refereeing decisions.
This initiative is part of the ongoing commitment of both entities to innovate in the football realm.
