A new oasis in the Spanish capital
The city of Madrid is about to add an exciting new feature to its recreational offerings. In 2028, Madrileños will be able to enjoy a new outdoor pool located in the iconic Retiro district. This project, announced by Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida, aims to provide a refreshing and accessible space to combat the high summer temperatures.
The new facility will be built within the M-30, marking a milestone as the first municipal pool in this area in nearly three decades. Covering a total area of 3,400 square metres, the centre will feature a main pool and another specifically designed for young children, ensuring that the whole family can enjoy the water.
Additionally, there are plans to create a building for changing rooms and a large landscaped area covering almost 2,000 square metres. This green space will not only provide a place to relax after swimming but will also help beautify the surrounding area.
The design of the new sports centre prioritises accessibility, ensuring that people with reduced mobility can fully enjoy the facilities. This initiative is part of the Madrid City Council's plan to modernise and diversify the recreational options available throughout the city.
Although residents will have to wait until 2027 for construction to begin, the excitement for this new space is palpable. The opening is scheduled to coincide with the start of summer in 2028, which promises to be great news for those seeking refreshing alternatives during the hottest months.
