The City Council of Madrid has announced the installation of giant screens for fans to enjoy the debut of the Spanish National Team in the World Cup, scheduled for this Monday at 18:00 against Cape Verde. This initiative, driven in collaboration with the Royal Spanish Football Federation, aims to promote a festive atmosphere and unity among supporters of the national team.
Screen in Plaza de Colón as the central point
The Plaza de Colón will be the main location where the match can be followed live. Deputy Mayor Inma Sanz explained that this screen will only be available for matches that take place before 22:00. This means that fans will be able to experience the excitement of the opening match and other games scheduled during the group stage.
In addition to the debut against Cape Verde, two other important matches have already been confirmed: the second match will be against Saudi Arabia on Sunday, June 21 at 18:00, and the group stage will conclude against Uruguay in the early hours of Saturday, June 27. However, due to the late hour, the latter cannot be followed from Colón.
The municipal administration has indicated that if Spain advances in the tournament, more locations could be set up to watch the matches. In the event of reaching the quarter-finals, there are plans to incorporate a second screen at Puente del Rey. “We are confident that we will be there,” Sanz stated during her speech.
This measure not only aims to provide a space to enjoy football but also to create a festive and community atmosphere among citizens. The Spanish fans are known for their passion and enthusiasm during these sporting events, which turns each match into a collective celebration.
