A New Horizon for the Vallecas Stadium
The Community of Madrid has launched an ambitious plan for the comprehensive renovation of the Rayo Vallecano stadium, requiring an estimated investment of €60 million. This project aims not only to modernise the facilities but also to ensure that the team continues to play at home while the works are carried out.
During a recent trip to New York, regional president Isabel Díaz Ayuso presented this project to investors and business representatives. The strategy includes the possibility of temporary concessions to companies interested in financing the work in exchange for exploiting the venue for a specified period. This initiative is part of a broader effort to attract foreign capital to the Madrid sports and audiovisual sector.
The planned reforms include increasing the stadium's capacity from 14,700 to 20,000 seats, as well as creating versatile spaces that can host different sporting competitions and dining areas. These improvements are essential to meet the standards required by LaLiga and to ensure an optimal experience for both local fans and visitors.
Despite the current deterioration of the stadium, authorities have assured that Rayo Vallecano will be able to continue playing there throughout the renovation process. The Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sport, Mariano de Paco, emphasised that a definitive project will be presented at the end of the legislative term, which will allow for a clear roadmap for future works.
The first phase of the plan has already been carried out between March and August of last year, focusing on improving structural aspects such as the roofs and facades. With an initial investment of two million euros, this work did not disrupt scheduled competitions or affect public access to the stadium. However, the second phase is expected to involve more complex work.
In addition to increasing capacity and modernising the facilities, one of the key objectives is to improve the safety and accessibility of the sports venue. This includes removing physical obstacles and implementing new regulations to ensure a safe experience for all attendees.
