A new era of mobility in Alcorcón
The municipality of Alcorcón has taken a significant step towards sustainability by implementing its own Low Emission Zone (LEZ). This initiative, which falls within the guidelines established by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), aims to improve air quality and promote responsible transport use in a locality with over 50,000 inhabitants.
Starting from the year 2026, restrictions will begin to be applied, although with unique characteristics aimed at facilitating the daily lives of Alcorcón residents. Unlike other cities such as Madrid, where regulations are stricter, Alcorcón has designed its LEZ with the primary objective of not harming its residents.
One of the most notable features is that citizens registered in Alcorcón will be able to circulate freely within this new zone, even if their vehicles lack an environmental badge. This means that those using older or less efficient cars will not see their mobility restricted within the municipality.
Local authorities have emphasized that this measure is aimed at protecting residents and ensuring that their quality of life is not compromised. Additionally, special authorisations have been established for cases where non-residents need to access the LEZ. For example, those who need to care for elderly individuals or attend medical appointments will be able to request a temporary permit to enter without restrictions.
The City Council has made it clear that these authorisations will be subject to a verification process to ensure that applicants meet all established requirements. These temporary measures will be reviewed and formally regulated in 2030, when a complete update of the municipal ordinance related to the LEZ is expected.
Through this initiative, Alcorcón not only seeks to comply with national regulations on pollutant emissions but also to create a healthier and more accessible urban environment for all its citizens. The effective and gradual implementation will allow for an assessment of the real impact on mobility and the overall well-being of the municipality.
