Investments that Will Transform Moratalaz
The district of Moratalaz, one of the most emblematic in Madrid, is about to undergo a significant transformation in its sports and recreational infrastructure. By 2026, the City Council has allocated a total budget of €4.5 million for various investments that promise to improve the quality of life for its residents.
A significant portion of the budget will be allocated to the improvement of the Moratalaz sports centre, where €1.4 million will be invested. This amount will allow for the complete renovation of the athletics track, which has been closed since January with no clear date for its reopening. Additionally, there are plans to cover the grandstand and renovate the lockers, which will undoubtedly revitalise this space cherished by local athletes.
Among the most anticipated developments is the construction of a rugby field on Calle Fuente Carrantona, with an investment close to €995,000. This new space will not only feature fields for playing rugby but also areas dedicated to training and other complementary facilities that will benefit all the residents of the district. The arrival of rugby in Moratalaz is an important step towards diversifying sports in this area.
Sport will not be the only focus of these improvements. The City Council has also decided to build a kiosk-bar in Cuña Verde Park, with a budget allocation of €402,000. This project was proposed by the residents themselves during participatory budgeting and represents an effort to promote community spaces where people can enjoy their leisure time.
In addition to the kiosk-bar, a plot located on Calle Encomienda Palacios will be adapted to become a venue for events and fairs. This initiative aims to promote cultural and social activities that strengthen the community fabric of the district.
Despite being the district that will receive the least funding compared to other areas of the City Council, the announced investments are a clear indication of the municipal commitment to improving conditions in Moratalaz. With these initiatives, it is expected not only to revitalise sports spaces but also to foster greater social cohesion among its inhabitants.
