A breath of fresh air for the Blaugrana board
The recent decision by Judge Santiago Pedraz has brought significant relief to the FC Barcelona board, led by Joan Laporta. The National Court has dismissed a complaint filed by a club member accusing Laporta and several members of his board of money laundering and other serious crimes. This ruling comes at a crucial time, as the club is in the midst of an electoral campaign to elect its new board.
The complaint was filed by Isidro Navarro, a newly admitted member from Pulgar (Toledo), who alleged that there were financial irregularities related to supposedly fraudulent operations abroad. However, the judge determined that he was not competent to investigate these matters, based on the jurisprudence of the Supreme Court that establishes specific criteria regarding jurisdiction in cases of crimes partially committed abroad.
Judge Pedraz argued that the alleged crimes originated from actions supposedly committed within Spanish territory, meaning they must be dealt with by the local courts in Barcelona. The Prosecutor's Office also supported this stance, suggesting that the reported facts did not meet the necessary requirements to be investigated by the National Court.
“Continuing or complex crimes must be judged where they were perpetrated,” emphasized Pedraz in his ruling. This decision marks an important milestone for the Catalan club, as it temporarily removes a legal shadow over its current management.
Shortly after the news of the complaint broke, FC Barcelona issued an official statement dismissing the accusations as “totally and absolutely false.” The Blaugrana entity has expressed its intention to continue working without distractions as it prepares for the presidential elections, where Joan Laporta seeks to reaffirm his position.
As the election date approaches, this episode could influence public perceptions of the club's current management. With a passionate social base divided among different candidates, any controversy can have significant repercussions. However, with this judicial resolution in favour of Laporta and his management team, it seems they have gained valuable time to focus on their electoral proposals and strengthen their image before the members.
