A new chapter in Johan Cruyff's legacy
At an emotional event held at La Salle Manresa, Pep Guardiola, former Manchester City manager, inaugurated the Cruyff Court Pep Guardiola, a court that symbolizes the union between sport and social values. During the ceremony, Guardiola shared his thoughts on the pressure that the Champions League exerts on clubs and its impact on sports projects.
Guardiola did not hold back in his comments about the Champions League, stating that this competition can “destroy projects”. The Catalan coach expressed his hope that this does not happen with FC Barcelona, especially if they manage to win the European title soon. “The League is what gives you consistency,” he emphasised, highlighting that success is measured beyond European trophies.
In a lighter moment, Guardiola was asked about the possibility of his former player, Bernardo Silva, joining Barcelona. With a smile, he replied: “Bernardo would fit into any team. He is too good.” This statement underscores not only the skills of the Portuguese midfielder but also Guardiola's confidence in his players.
Despite having recently left the Manchester City bench after a successful decade, Guardiola joked about his academic future: “Going back to study at La Salle and becoming a teacher.” These words reflect his emotional connection to his alma mater and suggest a desire to contribute to the education and training of new generations.
Accompanied by prominent figures such as Susila Cruyff and Pati Roura, president and director of the Cruyff Foundation, respectively, Guardiola highlighted the importance of sport as a tool to promote values such as cohesion and social inclusion among young people. “I am proud to be part of Johan Cruyff's social legacy,” he stated during his speech.
Since 2022, Action and the Cruyff Foundation have collaborated to develop sports initiatives aimed at keeping children active. The new Cruyff Court Pep Guardiola is the fourth inaugurated under this collaboration. These types of facilities aim not only to promote sport but also to create spaces where an inclusive community is fostered.
