A New Standard in European Football

The landscape of European football has reached unprecedented levels in terms of economic valuation. According to the latest report The European Elite, produced by Football Benchmark, the 32 most prominent clubs on the continent have achieved a combined valuation of €72.6 billion, which represents almost triple what was recorded ten years ago.

In this context, Real Madrid reaffirms itself as the most valuable football entity in the world, with a business estimate rising to €7.725 billion. This 23% increase from the previous year not only sets a new historical record but also widens the gap with its closest competitors.

Despite the notable recovery of FC Barcelona, which has climbed to second place with a valuation of €5.918 billion, it still lags more than €1.8 billion behind the white club. Completing the podium are other giants like Manchester City and Manchester United, valued at €5.102 billion and €5.093 billion respectively.

The influence of Real Madrid goes beyond sporting results; its ability to generate operating income has surpassed €1.161 billion, becoming the first club to break the billion-euro barrier in annual revenue. This success is driven by the star arrivals of players like Kylian Mbappé and the standout performances of Jude Bellingham and Vinícius Júnior.

Analysts also highlight the positive impact of the renovation of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, as well as the club's ability to monetise its brand globally. With an impressive valuation-to-revenue ratio of 6.7 times, Real Madrid positions itself well above its direct competitors.

As the industry progresses, there is a growing economic concentration among a small group of global clubs. The ten most valuable teams enjoy significantly higher multiples thanks to their ability to attract international audiences and maintain a constant presence in European competitions.

Overall, the 32 clubs included in this report have seen their aggregate valuation increase by 12%. This growth is driven by new competitive formats such as the Champions League and international events like the Club World Cup, along with robust commercial development within the sector.

As European football continues to evolve as a global entertainment industry, it is clear that this expansion is increasingly concentrated among a few economic giants. In this competitive landscape, Real Madrid not only leads on the pitch; it also dominates the finances behind the beautiful game by a wide margin.
