A boost for sustainable mobility
The Madrid City Council has taken a significant step towards sustainability with the launch of the Ayudas Cambia 360, which will be available to citizens from next April. This programme, which will be implemented between April 20 and May 20, will allocate up to 23.3 million euros to encourage the renewal of the vehicle fleet and improve air quality in the capital.
One of the most notable new features is the inclusion for the first time of the scrapping of vehicles classified as B. Madrileños who decide to change their cars without a label will be able to benefit from 4,000 euros when purchasing a ZERO emissions vehicle and 2,000 euros for an ECO vehicle. Additionally, 1,500 euros extra will be offered if they choose to dispose of a vehicle A or B.
The taxi sector will also receive special attention in this plan, with an allocation of up to 2.85 million euros. The aids will allow taxi drivers to acquire clean vehicles, offering up to 20,000 euros for each new ZERO or ECO car purchased. This measure aims to continue the decarbonisation process that has led to 96% of the taxi fleet being eco-friendly.
Apart from the traditional automotive sector, Madrid is also betting on micromobility. Up to 300,000 euros have been reserved, where users can receive aids ranging from 400 euros for electric bicycles to 1,000 euros for electric motorcycles L3e, L4e, and L5e.
They are not only focusing on vehicles; the Ayudas Cambia 360 also includes grants to renew air conditioning systems in residential and commercial buildings. Up to 5,000 euros per home will be allocated, representing a significant opportunity to reduce pollutant emissions from the inefficient use of old boilers.
As the start date for applying for these aids approaches, the City Council hopes that this initiative will not only improve air quality in Madrid but also drive a transformation towards more sustainable and energy-efficient mobility throughout the city.
