A significant change in Madrid's transport
The Community of Madrid is about to implement a new identification badge system for vehicles for hire with driver (VTC), a measure that promises to revolutionise the way users perceive and use this service. The entry into force is scheduled for July, marking a milestone in the regulation of the sector.
This new regulation not only aims to improve the visual identification of vehicles but also incorporates elements specifically designed to prevent counterfeiting. With these badges, it will be easier to distinguish between urban and interurban authorisations, which will increase transparency and provide greater guarantees for both users and professionals in the sector.
One of the most notable aspects of this reform is its focus on people with reduced mobility. Mandatory pictograms will be implemented on adapted cars, facilitating their immediate recognition by those who need these services. Additionally, certain environmental requirements will be relaxed, allowing these vehicles to obtain an environmental label C, thus ensuring an adequate offer for all.
The regulatory project also introduces significant changes in price regulation during high demand situations. Price increases can only be applied under exceptional circumstances previously declared by the competent authorities, such as extraordinary events or adverse weather phenomena. These increases will be limited to a maximum of 75% over the base fare and cannot include additional surcharges not contemplated by current regulations.
With these measures, the regional government seeks to ensure a sufficient supply of adapted vehicles and reinforce legal security, while improving the overall functioning of the VTC service in Madrid. This initiative represents an important step towards safer and more accessible transport for all citizens.
