A special device for the papal visit
The Community of Madrid has announced a comprehensive mobility plan to facilitate access to the scheduled events during Pope Leo XIV's visit, which will take place from June 6 to June 9. The regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, made this initiative public at an informational meeting organized by the newspaper El Mundo, where she highlighted the importance of ensuring efficient mobility in light of the expected increase in visitors.
One of the most notable measures is the extension of the Metro hours until 2:30 AM on the night from Saturday to Sunday. This decision aims to facilitate night-time travel and ensure that all attendees can return home without inconvenience. Additionally, the frequency of trains on various lines will be increased by up to 125%, allowing for greater capacity and shorter waiting times.
To address this exceptional situation, more than 600 additional workers will be mobilized, who will be distributed across key stations to provide user assistance and ensure the proper functioning of the system. This effort includes specialized personnel in maintenance and security, thus guaranteeing a smooth experience for all travelers.
Not only will the Metro service be reinforced; there will also be significant operational adjustments. A reorganization is expected at strategic stations to better manage passenger flows during peak hours. This is essential given that a large influx is anticipated both inside and outside the capital.
The plan is not limited to the Metro; it also includes reinforcements from the Municipal Transport Company, which will add a hundred intercity buses. This will better connect visitors staying in nearby municipalities with the central events scheduled in Madrid.
As the date approaches, local authorities are working hard to ensure that all logistical aspects are covered. The main objective is to facilitate mobility both within Madrid and between nearby towns, thus ensuring that everyone can fully enjoy this historic event without setbacks.
