A scandal that shakes the PP
The Popular Party (PP) of Madrid is in the eye of the storm following recent allegations of sexual harassment against the mayor of Móstoles, Manuel Bautista. The complaint, filed by a former councillor of the party, has unleashed a series of reactions that have led the PP leadership to vehemently defend its position and question the veracity of the claims.
Alfonso Serrano, the general secretary of the PP in Madrid, has responded to the allegations by asserting that there is no evidence to support a case of sexual harassment. During a press conference held at the party's headquarters, Serrano categorically stated: “This is not a case of sexual harassment; it has never existed.” This statement comes amid a tense political climate where opponents have demanded accountability from the party.
Serrano not only defended Bautista but also launched harsh criticisms against the former councillor who made the complaint, suggesting that her actions could be motivated by “bad faith” and a supposed political vendetta. According to him, this situation is part of a broader attempt to discredit the PP and its regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso. “I hope that recording comes out intact,” said Serrano referring to audios published by media that may have been manipulated.
As the scandal unfolds, the former councillor has announced her intention to take the case to court for sexual harassment and other crimes related to the revelation of secrets. In response, Serrano warned of possible legal actions against those who spread false or malicious information about the party.
This conflict arises at a critical moment for the PP, just before important elections in Aragón. Serrano hinted that the leak of the case could be a tactic to divert public attention from the electoral performance of the PSOE. “It is quite surprising that four days before the elections this case is leaked,” he commented during his speech.
Despite the scandal, Manuel Bautista has expressed his intention to remain in office without considering resignation. The pressure on him and the party increases as opponents continue to demand clarity and accountability in light of these serious allegations.
