The Madrid Government raises its voice
In a forceful appearance before the media, the spokesperson for the Government of the Community of Madrid, Miguel Ángel García Martín, has described the behaviour of the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, as "very serious", accusing him of aiming to "blow everything up". These statements come amid a tense political climate, marked by recent corruption investigations involving members of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE).
The councillor's statements were made following an extraordinary meeting of the Governing Council at the Finca Vista Alegre. García Martín referred to the investigations carried out by the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard, which have scrutinised Sánchez's close circle. In particular, the case known as Leire Díez case was mentioned, where key figures such as Santos Cerdán and Leire Díez are said to be involved in a scheme aimed at protecting the president's interests.
The regional spokesperson did not hold back in his criticism of the central government, accusing it of trying to undermine the Judiciary to avoid investigations into cases that directly affect its closest circle. "We are facing a president who seems willing to do whatever it takes to stay in power," García Martín stated, emphasising that this situation jeopardises democratic institutions.
As eight years pass since Pedro Sánchez came to power through a vote of no confidence, García Martín contrasted the initial promises with the current reality. He recalled how Sánchez had promised to restore normality and combat corruption when he took office in 2018. However, according to the Madrid councillor, the facts demonstrate the opposite: "What began as a false project has ended up becoming continuous scandals," he concluded.
