A conflict shaking the foundations of Vox
In an unexpected turn within the Vox party, Javier Ortega Smith has made public a letter addressed to the National Executive Committee (CEN) following his recent expulsion. This move not only reveals the internal tensions of the party but also highlights the struggle for control and political direction of the formation.
Ortega Smith, who remains Vox's spokesperson in the Madrid City Council, has described his departure as "unjustified" and has denounced what he considers a process filled with "interested leaks, lies, and manipulations." In his letter, published on his social media, he challenges the Secretary General Ignacio Garriga to make his next leak the model 347 from the Tax Agency, insinuating that there is more at stake behind his expulsion.
The CEN's decision was based on a series of emails sent to Ortega Smith. The councillor laments that committee members voted "en masse" without adequately analysing the documentation presented. In one of those emails, he is even accused of having ties to the Popular Party, something he vehemently denies.
Throughout his letter, Ortega Smith expresses his concern about how the accusations have affected his personal relationships within the party. He asserts that he will not fall into a "witch hunt" nor allow the defamation of those he considers friends and founding allies of the political project. This situation reflects a tense climate where ideological differences seem to be leading to personal confrontations.
At the end of his letter, Ortega Smith calls on CEN members to defend the foundational principles of the party without being influenced by personal or external interests. His message is clear: he will continue to fight for what he considers a Spain silenced by other political parties.
Amid this controversy, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, the Mayor of Madrid, has confirmed that Javier Ortega Smith will continue to be the spokesperson for the municipal group during the next plenary session. Almeida describes the situation as "abnormal," but assures that there are no official changes in the composition of the group or in its spokesperson role.
As internal tensions continue to grow within Vox, many are questioning what the future holds for the party and whether it can overcome these divisions without affecting its electoral base.
