The Municipal Group of Vox has accused the PP of unilaterally breaking the government pact following the dismissal of its spokesperson, Víctor Acosta, as second deputy mayor. The crisis originates from disagreements over transparency in budget management.
The Popular Party (PP) has been accused by Vox of breaking the government agreement in Alcalá de Henares after removing Víctor Acosta from the position of second deputy mayor and councillor for Strategic and European Projects. Although Acosta will retain other positions, this decision has generated significant tensions between the two parties. Vox believes that this action undermines institutional credibility and disregards the pact signed in June 2023.
In a statement, Vox emphasised that despite the conflict, it will continue working for the residents in the areas that correspond to it. Acosta will continue to preside over District II and manage the Sports City, while the other councillors will retain their competencies intact. However, Vox interprets this modification as a political retaliation for demanding greater transparency in public management.
The crisis between the two parties dates back to May 2025, when the PP attempted to approve a significant budget modification without consulting its partner. This action was seen as an electoralist attempt and provoked an immediate rejection from Vox. “We will not be the PP's lapdog,” Acosta declared, emphasising that citizens voted to have a voice in decisions regarding the use of public money.
The conflict also revolves around what Vox describes as a worrying lack of transparency on the part of the PP regarding the Municipal Sports City Autonomous Body (CDM). They accuse the ruling party of refusing to provide necessary accounting information to ensure proper management.
For his part, Vicente Pérez, deputy municipal spokesperson for the PP, defended the party's stance by stating that councillors should focus on solving real problems and not take on roles that belong to independent bodies. Pérez assured that there is a rigorous system in place to control the municipality's economic and budgetary activity.
As this political conflict progresses, it is clear that tensions between Vox and the PP could affect not only their internal relationship but also public perception of governance in Alcalá.
