A father's fight for his children
In an act of desperation and determination, Jorge Bravo, an officer of the Local Police of Parla, has begun a hunger strike that has now lasted eleven days. His goal is clear: to achieve a shift change that allows him to balance his work with family needs, as he is the father of nine children. This situation has led Bravo to lose up to six kilos and to experience dizziness and physical weakness.
Despite his efforts, the City Council has shown no willingness to address his request. According to Bravo, he has attempted several swaps to work in another municipality where he could have a night shift, but all have failed. The reason behind this refusal lies in a disciplinary file opened against him for bringing two of his children to work in critical situations.
The officer has expressed his frustration at the lack of understanding from the Council regarding his family situation. “Bringing my children to work was a temporary measure until my wife could pick them up,” explains Bravo, who points out that other colleagues in nearby towns such as Alcobendas or Las Rozas have faced similar situations without suffering job repercussions.
The City Council argues that granting the shift change could negatively affect other members of the police force. However, Jorge Bravo is not convinced by this justification. Recently, the mayor announced the hiring of new officers on social media, which intensified his disbelief about the lack of support for his case.
As his hunger strike progresses, Jorge Bravo faces serious consequences for his mental and physical health. Despite the evident deterioration in his condition, he remains steadfast in his decision: “I will not stop until my work situation is resolved or I end up in hospital.” This extreme act highlights not only the personal difficulties of the officer but also the broader challenges many workers face when trying to balance their work responsibilities with family demands.
