Police operation in the bodybuilding world
The National Police has carried out an operation that resulted in the arrest of two individuals linked to a sports centre in Alcalá de Henares, accused of selling anabolic steroids and ecstasy. This action comes after months of investigation that revealed suspicious activities within the establishment, known for its connection to the bodybuilding sector.
The arrested individuals, a man and a woman, were well-known figures in the bodybuilding industry, regularly participating in competitions and exhibitions. Their notoriety allowed them to establish trusting relationships with clients, facilitating the clandestine promotion and sale of prohibited substances. According to police sources, they offered informal advice on personalised hormonal protocols to attract more consumers.
The investigation began in January when authorities received reports about possible drug sales at the sports centre. Agents observed a disturbing pattern: many people entered the place without visible sports equipment and quickly left with evasive behaviours. This raised alarms about the illicit nature of the activities taking place there.
On March 3, a thorough search was conducted both at the sports centre and at the shared residence of the arrested individuals. During this operation, agents confiscated narcotic substances and anabolic steroids valued at over €18,800, as well as syringes and other utensils used for administering these substances. An weapon, mobile phones, and more than €7,000 in cash were also found.
Apart from the seized material, the searches revealed an alarming amount of anabolic steroids hidden not only in common areas such as the living room or kitchen but also within the sports centre itself. The arrested individuals face serious charges of drug trafficking and violations of health regulations established by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
This case once again brings to light the problem of substance misuse within the sports realm, as well as its implications for public health. The local community watches with concern how such activities can affect not only the athletes involved but also young people seeking to improve their physical performance without considering the associated risks.
