The City Council of Leganés has appointed the late Francisco Javier Márquez as honorary councillor and dedicated a public space in his memory. The decision was unanimous among all parties.
The Plenary of the City Council of Leganés approved on Thursday the posthumous distinction of honorary councillor for Francisco Javier Márquez Ortiz, who was the spokesperson for the socialist group and recently passed away. This gesture, which symbolises recognition of his work in local politics, was unanimously supported by all groups represented in the corporation, reflecting a sense of unity beyond party differences.
In addition to the appointment as honorary councillor, the plenary decided that a heritage space located in the Gardens of the Central Library will bear his name: “Archaeological Recreation Francisco Javier Márquez Ortiz”. This new name will serve as a permanent way to remember his legacy and contributions to the Leganés community.
The session also marked the beginning of the term for Gregorio Ramírez Cano, who took over as the new councillor of the Socialist Municipal Group, thus filling the position left vacant after Márquez's passing. During this same meeting, a minute of silence was observed in memory of another former councillor, Gregorio Pintor Moreno, who served the city from 1987 to 1991.
