A crowd cries out for respect for life in Madrid
This Sunday, Madrid was the scene of a significant demonstration organised by the Platform Yes to Life, which gathered approximately 800 people, according to data from the Government Delegation. The protest began shortly after 12:00 hours on the iconic Serrano street and culminated at number 1 on the Paseo de la Castellana, where attendees expressed their rejection of laws they consider "anti-life".
The demonstrators, carrying flags and green balloons, raised banners with messages such as ‘live life’ and ‘the right to life is for everyone’. In the manifesto read during the event, they demanded the repeal of laws that, according to the organisers, grant "false rights" and promote a culture that devalues human life. The coordinator of the platform, Alicia Latorre, emphasised that this mobilisation is both a support for those working for pro-life causes and a firm opposition to current legislation.
Among the speakers was Cynthia, who shared her experience after receiving an unfavourable prenatal diagnosis. She recounted how she was advised to terminate her pregnancy due to her daughter's Down syndrome. Her emotional testimony resonated among those present, who responded with applause and expressions of support. Another young man, Kevin, also took the microphone to talk about his own struggles with suicidal thoughts and how he found meaning amid suffering. His message was clear: they are not alone in their personal battles.
Pablo Siegrist, director of the Jérôme Lejeune Foundation, emphasised during his speech that an alarming 95% of pregnancies diagnosed with Down syndrome end in abortion in Spain. This statistic prompted deep reflection among attendees about the ethical and social implications of selective abortion.
Concluding the event, participants observed a minute of silence in tribute to the victims of what they call the "culture of death". Subsequently, they carried out an emotional balloon release as a symbol of remembrance for those unborn. This action concluded a day filled with emotions and demands from the pro-life community.
