The alarming situation in Parque Paraíso
Parque Paraíso, located in the San Blas-Canillejas district, has become a focal point of concern following the recent murder of a man, prompting authorities to call an urgent meeting. This tragic event has reignited the debate over security in this area and highlighted tensions between different administrations.
The Government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín, organised a summit that brought together several key stakeholders, including the district councillor, Almudena Maíllo, and senior police officials. However, the notable absence of representatives from the Community of Madrid drew criticism. The regional administration justified its lack of participation by labelling the meeting as "unilateral" and accusing the central Government of attempting to "shift responsibilities".
Despite the tense atmosphere, concrete proposals to improve security in the park were discussed. An Integrated Plan was proposed that would include an increase of 8 to 10 percent in police personnel assigned to this area. Francisco Martín emphasised that addressing insecurity requires more than just increasing police presence; a multidimensional approach that includes health and social aspects is necessary.
From the City Council, Almudena Maíllo expressed her frustration at having requested previous meetings without success. Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida also stressed the urgent need to reinforce the National Police to restore normalcy in the park. The statements reflect growing pressure on authorities to act in the face of what many consider an imminent crisis.
As discussions progress, it becomes clear that the differences between local and regional administrations are deep. Regional councillor Miguel Ángel García Martín, for his part, reaffirmed the regional Government's commitment to the necessary public services to ensure the safety and well-being of Madrid residents.
