An alarming incident in the heart of Getafe
In the early hours of last Good Friday, a robbery attempt at a grocery store located in the centre of Getafe left a 58-year-old man seriously injured. The incident, which occurred on Polvoranca Street, near the Town Hall, has shocked the local community and highlighted the risks faced by traders in their daily lives.
According to police reports, the owner of the establishment was attacked with a bladed weapon by a 20-year-old man, who attempted to rob him while they struggled. Upon arriving at the scene, National Police officers found the trader bleeding profusely due to multiple injuries he had sustained. The police acted quickly to stem the bleeding until medical services arrived.
The Summa 112 team, present at the scene, stabilised the man before transferring him to 12 de Octubre Hospital, where he is under medical care with a serious prognosis. The injuries were mainly located in the left and right hemithorax, raising concerns about his overall condition.
Shortly after the attack, the National Police reviewed the store's security cameras and were able to identify the alleged perpetrator of the crime. Following a swift search of the nearby streets, officers located the young suspect on Murillo Street. He also had minor injuries to his right hand and head as a result of the struggle during the robbery attempt.
The young man was arrested on charges of robbery with violence. He was subsequently taken to Getafe Hospital for medical treatment before being placed in police custody. The investigation is being conducted by the National Police with additional support from the Local Police.
This incident not only highlights the inherent dangers of retail but also raises questions about public safety in urban areas like Getafe. Residents have expressed their concern over such violent acts and have called for greater preventive measures to protect both traders and customers.
