A festive day marked by tragedy
The joy and bustle that characterise the April Fair in Miraflores de la Sierra were abruptly interrupted this Tuesday when an accident involving a horse-drawn carriage left seven people injured. The incident occurred around 12:25 PM at a private estate, where a group of friends was enjoying the traditional event.
The carriage, which was carrying eight people, unexpectedly overturned, causing significant injuries among the occupants. According to initial reports, two men, aged 57 and 61, were airlifted to local hospitals with serious polytrauma. Authorities have confirmed that both are receiving intensive medical care.
The deployed medical response was considerable. A total of thirty professionals, including two helicopters and several ambulances, arrived at the scene to assist the injured. In addition to the seriously injured men, a 71-year-old woman was taken to Ramón y Cajal Hospital in moderate condition, while four other women sustained minor injuries and were treated at various nearby medical centres.
Following the accident, the Civil Guard has launched an investigation to determine the exact causes of the overturn. Such incidents highlight the need to review safety measures during public events where traditional vehicles like horse-drawn carriages are used.
The April Fair is one of the most anticipated events for residents and visitors of the Madrid municipality. However, this tragic incident has raised concerns among organisers and attendees regarding safety during these festivities.
