An Afternoon of Tension in Usera
The Usera district, in the south of Madrid, became the scene of an intense police chase last Thursday at 18:00. The action began when a patrol from the National Police detected a group of suspicious individuals who appeared to be using the seed method, a criminal technique that involves distracting victims to rob them.
Upon noticing the police presence, the suspects did not hesitate to flee in their vehicle, initiating a dangerous chase through several roads in southern Madrid. The officers, aware of the risks posed by the evasive and reckless driving of the fugitives, requested immediate support to contain the situation.
As the chase progressed towards the M-45, the occupants of the vehicle began to ram several patrol cars, causing significant damage. Up to three official vehicles were rendered inoperable during these incidents, which necessitated the reinforcement of the operation with additional units to prevent the criminals from escaping or endangering other drivers.
Ultimately, the conclusion occurred at exit 7 of the M-45, near Marconi. There, the vehicle used by the suspects collided with one of the police cars involved in the operation. After this collision, the officers were able to immobilise the car and proceed to arrest its five occupants.
The detainees are five men of Peruvian nationality who face charges for an alleged crime against property related to their prior criminal activity. As a result of the incident, eight officers sustained minor injuries during the ramming and the final collision; fortunately, none suffered serious injuries and received appropriate medical attention.
The seed method, frequently used by criminals in public spaces and parking lots, involves dropping objects like coins or keys to distract victims while they are robbed of their belongings. This type of crime has raised concerns among local authorities due to its recent increase in frequency.
