A blow to organized crime
The National Police have made a significant step in the fight against organized crime by dismantling a group specialized in love scams in Alcalá de Henares. This operation, which took place at the end of April 2026, resulted in the arrest of three Romanian women, aged between 23 and 29.
The detainees used clever tactics to approach their victims, primarily elderly people. According to police reports, the modus operandi involved creating a trusting environment through affectionate excuses. The suspects would approach their targets with requests such as asking for a hug or a kiss, which allowed them to distract the elderly person's attention while another member of the group searched the home for valuable items.
The investigation began in early April following reports of several thefts with similar characteristics. The local police station noticed a worrying trend: the thefts were carried out under the same scheme, prompting authorities to intensify their surveillance and establish a special operation to catch the criminals.
The police effort bore fruit quickly. On April 13, two women involved in these crimes were arrested. However, the third suspect continued operating until she was arrested on the 22nd of the same month when she was caught inside a home with several stolen items that had been identified by their owner.
This case highlights the importance of being alert to unusual situations and taking additional precautions when interacting with strangers. The National Police urges citizens to report any suspicious activity to help prevent similar future crimes.
