A night of action in Puente de Vallecas
In the early hours of Wednesday, 6 May 2026, the streets of the Madrid district of Puente de Vallecas became the scene of an intense police chase that culminated in the seizure of 600 kilos of cocaine. The operation began around 6:15 AM when a Municipal Police patrol detected two suspicious vehicles: an Audi A6 and a Land Rover Range Rover.
The officers noticed that both cars were travelling in parallel and were engaged in conversation between their drivers, which piqued their interest. Upon checking the registration of the Range Rover, they realised there were irregularities and decided to stop the driver. However, he chose to flee, thus initiating a dangerous high-speed chase through the neighbourhood's streets.
During the pursuit, the SUV performed reckless manoeuvres, running red lights and endangering other drivers and pedestrians. The police observed that the vehicle appeared to be carrying a heavy load due to its low suspension.
Finally, the Land Rover drove the wrong way down San Claudio Street. Its occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. One of them was arrested by the officers at the intersection of Luis Buñuel and Gerardo Diego streets; he is a 32-year-old Spanish man residing in Huelva. During his arrest, the police found three mobile phones, 500 euros, and notes suggesting the existence of a 'runner car', possibly related to the Audi A6.
Upon inspecting the abandoned Range Rover, the officers discovered numerous packages consistent with drug bales both in the back seats and in the boot. Additionally, they found a long firearm in the passenger seat; its current condition is being analysed by forensic experts.
The fake number plates of the vehicle revealed that it had been stolen previously, which adds further complexity to the case. The investigation remains open to locate the second fugitive and determine both the origin and final destination of the seized drugs.
The operation involved not only the Municipal Police; agents from the Special Operational Group (GOIT) of the National Police also participated to dismantle the implicated car. The cocaine has been transferred to police facilities for detailed analysis.
