Police Operation Against Human Trafficking
In a series of coordinated operations, the National Police has successfully dismantled two criminal networks dedicated to human trafficking in Madrid and Alicante. A total of eleven people have been arrested, including two ringleaders who are already in provisional custody facing serious charges such as money laundering and membership in a criminal organization.
The investigations revealed a modus operandi based on deception. Victims were lured from their home countries with attractive job promises, only to discover upon arriving in Spain that they had incurred an exorbitant debt of 10,000 euros. This amount had to be repaid through prostitution under inhumane conditions, plunging them into an endless cycle of exploitation.
Agents found a terrifying scene during the raids. In one of the brothels, they rescued a 15-year-old girl forced to manage up to a hundred calls daily to coordinate sexual services. The victims lived under constant surveillance thanks to cameras installed in the rooms, where the pimps even spoke to them at night to prevent them from resting.
Aside from physical control, the women were subjected to santería rituals aimed at breaking their will. They were forced not only to consume drugs but also to engage in unprotected sexual relations, resulting in multiple cases of sexually transmitted diseases among them.
The operation was initiated following the brave report of a victim who managed to escape the horror. Her testimony was crucial in dismantling this criminal network. In another intervention, four women were freed after having been subjected to extreme working conditions; any refusal or delay cost them severe financial penalties.
The situation was further complicated by the use of emotional blackmail: many victims were threatened with the public dissemination of intimate photographs if they attempted to escape or report their situation. This cruel mechanism ensured their silence and submission to their captors.
