An unexpected incident in the heart of Madrid
Last Sunday, the tranquility of the Centro district of Madrid was interrupted by an unusual event involving a priest. At 6:00 PM, Municipal Police officers detected a vehicle performing dangerous maneuvers near the Basilica of San Francisco el Grande. The patrol decided to intervene upon observing sudden braking and abrupt accelerations.
Upon stopping the car, the police identified the driver as a 52-year-old man who introduced himself as a priest, accompanied by a 25-year-old young man. Although both denied having illegal substances, their evident nervousness led the officers to search the interior of the vehicle.
During the inspection, blister packs of sildenafil and bottles of popper, a drug known for its vasodilating effects and use in sexual contexts, were found. The substances were hidden among personal belongings and documents in the car.
Despite acknowledging that the medications belonged to him, the priest was unable to present any medical prescription justifying his legal possession. Regarding the popper, several open containers were found both in the cabin and among the belongings of the young companion.
Following the intervention, the driver was taken to police premises where a report was filed for possession of narcotics. Although he was released under investigation, this incident has caused a stir not only due to the identity of the person involved but also because of the legal implications he may face.
This type of control is part of the usual protocol implemented by the Municipal Police to monitor irregular driving behaviors and possible violations related to prohibited substances or those subject to medical prescription. The local community is watching closely how this case could affect both the priest and his congregation in Cuenca.
