A robbery that paralysed hundreds
On Tuesday night, the La Vaguada shopping centre became the scene of a violent robbery that left customers and employees in shock. In just two minutes, three masked armed men burst into the well-known José Luis jewellery store, unleashing chaos with gunfire that caused a stampede among those present.
At 21:00, while the shopping centre was still bustling with life, the criminals entered the establishment with chilling precision. Without wasting any time, they began to strip the display cases filled with jewellery and valuable pieces. Witnesses recount how the deafening sound of the gunshots echoed through nearby shops, where employees from Mango and Bershka quickly lowered metal shutters to protect shoppers.
The accounts of what happened are shocking. One witness described how he initially thought it was a terrorist attack: “I saw people fleeing in terror and thought it was something much more serious.” Another shop assistant recounted the horror experienced: “We heard screams and bangs as people ran towards us seeking refuge.” Despite the use of firearms during the robbery, fortunately, there were no gunshot injuries; however, one worker suffered an anxiety attack that required immediate medical attention.
After seizing loot whose value is still being assessed by experts, the thieves quickly fled in a blue BMW vehicle where a fourth accomplice was waiting at the wheel. Despite the immediate police deployment in the area, including a chase by the National Police, they managed to escape without being apprehended.
Authorities are considering the possibility that this robbery is part of a coordinated series of thefts in jewellery stores within the Community of Madrid. This incident marks the fourth similar assault in less than three weeks. Investigators are reviewing security footage to determine if all these crimes are connected and if there is indeed a specialised gang behind them.
As the investigation progresses, merchants and customers remain uneasy about the possibility of new similar attacks. The general sentiment is clear: security in commercial spaces must be reinforced to prevent situations like this from happening again.
