Night operation in Humanes de Madrid
In a decisive action, the Civil Guard has conducted an operation that resulted in the arrest of two men and the investigation of a third, after seizing over 25 kilograms of nitrous oxide, popularly known as ‘laughing gas’. This operation took place near a well-known nightclub, Fabrik, during the early hours of last weekend.
Agents from the Special Citizen Security Unit (USECIC) detected suspicious movements around the nightlife venue. Upon inspecting a vehicle, they found 21 cylinders of the gas, apparently ready for distribution. In addition to nitrous oxide, other narcotic substances such as cocaine, hashish, speed, and tusi were discovered, along with approximately 650 euros in cash, suggesting illicit activity related to drug trafficking.
This incident is not isolated; it is part of an alarming trend that has been observed by health and police authorities. Recreational use of nitrous oxide has notably increased among young people in festive environments. Although this substance has legitimate industrial applications, its low cost and immediate effects have contributed to its popularity at parties and gatherings.
Despite being perceived as harmless by many teenagers, frequent consumption can lead to serious health risks. Public health experts warn about the neurological and respiratory effects that can arise from continued use. The misconception about its safety is facilitating its spread among the youth.
The authorities have arrested two men, one aged 32 and the other 52, formally charged with a crime against public health. A third individual, only 28 years old, is being investigated for his possible involvement in transporting the seized material. The investigation remains open to clarify the full extent of this network and determine the final destination of the nitrous oxide and other drugs found.
