A tragic day in Madrid
This Wednesday, the city of Madrid was shaken by a regrettable workplace accident that resulted in the death of a worker approximately 50 years old. The incident occurred around 14:35 at the Movistar Arena, located in Plaza de Felipe II, where the man was performing maintenance tasks on the venue's roof.
According to preliminary reports provided by Emergencias Madrid, the worker fell from a height of about 30 meters. Despite the efforts made by medical services, which included advanced resuscitation maneuvers for 20 minutes, it was not possible to save his life. The head of the SUMMA 112 shift, Carlos Rubio, confirmed that the worker arrived at the hospital in critical condition and ultimately passed away.
The impact of the incident not only affected those present at the scene; protocols were also activated to assist three other workers who experienced anxiety attacks after witnessing the accident. A psychologist from SUMMA 112 was sent to the site to provide emotional support to those in vulnerable states.
In the wake of the accident, agents from the Municipal Police and members of the Madrid City Fire Brigade have initiated an investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding this tragic event. Authorities are seeking to determine whether all necessary regulations and safety measures were followed during the work being carried out.
This incident highlights an alarming issue in the Community of Madrid, where dozens of workplace deaths and over 29,600 accidents have been recorded up to April of this year. The situation raises questions about working conditions and safety in high-altitude jobs.
