Cuzco Metro Station in Madrid will remain closed until the end of August for renovation work. The works, valued at 1.7 million euros, include the removal of asbestos.
Starting from 4th July, Cuzco station on the Madrid Metro will close its doors until the end of August due to a series of works aimed at improving the infrastructure and removing the asbestos present in its facilities. This closure will affect Line 10, which will cease operations between Nuevos Ministerios and Plaza de Castilla, forcing users to seek alternatives during this period. The intervention, which has an estimated cost of 1.7 million euros, includes not only the removal of asbestos in the vault and technical rooms but also the modernisation of the waterproofing system and the dismantling of the false ceiling on the platforms. Additionally, there will be an aesthetic renovation with painting and improvements to the visible metal elements.
The Community of Madrid has decided to take advantage of this closure to carry out a comprehensive intervention at a station that was inaugurated in 1982. Such interventions are crucial to ensure the safety and comfort of public service. Compared to other historic stations that have been recently renovated, such as Chueca or Gran Vía, Cuzco joins a continuous effort to modernise Madrid's underground transport.
During the closure, users will be able to use an alternative service: the special S10 EMT line. This free bus will connect Nuevos Ministerios with Plaza de Castilla, making intermediate stops along the Paseo de la Castellana. The schedules are extensive; they operate every day from 6:05 to 2:02 hours, with very competitive frequencies ranging from two to three minutes on weekdays and three to four minutes on weekends and holidays.
Once the scheduled works conclude at the end of August, Cuzco is expected to reopen to the public with significant aesthetic and functional improvements. However, it is important to note that the alternative service will remain available while restrictions persist in other sections affected by the works.
