From July 6 to August 28, there will be closures on several access roads to Madrid. The DGT warns of diversions and restrictions that will affect thousands of drivers.
The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has announced that, during the months of July and August, significant traffic closures will take place on the M-50 and highways A-4, A-5, and A-6 due to rehabilitation works. These interventions are scheduled to minimise the impact on traffic, taking advantage of the lower intensity of summer traffic. The works will begin on July 6 and will extend until August 28, affecting various key sections for travel to the capital.
The main actions will focus on the M-50, where the State Society for Land Transport Infrastructure (SEITT), under the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, will carry out works that include pavement rehabilitation, signage renewal, and road safety improvements between kilometre points 17+000 and 45+900. During this period, total or partial closures will be implemented, necessitating traffic diversions.
From August 17 to 28, there will also be nightly closures from 21:00 to 6:00 hours, specifically in the section between the M-45 and the A-2. This presents an additional challenge for those needing to transit through this area at night.
Simultaneously, the works on the so-called Culebro Axis will conclude, covering another significant section of the M-50 between kilometre points 46+000 and 55+500. These works will include structural waterproofing and pavement renewal with diversions planned throughout July and August.
Not only will the M-50 be affected; significant works will also be carried out on other important roads. On the A-4, a total closure is scheduled towards Madrid between July 10 and 12, with alternative diversions via M-45 and M-40. Regarding the A-5, there will be temporary closures of the right lane from July 6 to 7, followed by another closure from July 13 to August 26. Finally, on the A-6, night works will take place from July 6 to August 18.
As the works progress, the DGT will provide updated information on road closures through variable information panels and regular reports on traffic jams and alternative routes. For those planning to travel on these routes this summer, it is advisable to consult these channels to avoid setbacks.
