The Ministry of Transport allocates €40.7 million to improve the A-4 in Getafe. The works aim to optimise public transport and reduce travel times.
The A-4 motorway in Getafe will undergo a significant transformation thanks to an investment of €40.7 million, awarded by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility. The main objective of this project is to improve public transport accessibility and optimise mobility in one of the busiest sections of the municipality. The works will cover from kilometre 12 to Leonardo da Vinci Avenue, thereby improving traffic conditions and reducing travel times for thousands of daily users. The work will focus between the industrial estates of Los Molinos and San Marcos, where side roads will be constructed that will vary between one and three lanes, depending on the specific section.
“This action aims to increase the quality of public transport and promote greater service regularity,”
said a ministry spokesperson. In addition, a new roundabout will be created to facilitate access to the San Marcos industrial estate, thus improving internal connectivity with this key business area for Getafe. In the direction of Madrid, the construction of a third lane is also planned, which will connect with the Hotel Los Ángeles and a nearby service station. This improvement will not only increase road capacity but also allow for smoother access to the motorway from other major roads such as the M-406. Another highlighted aspect of the project is the replacement of a pedestrian bridge at kilometre 13.12 with a safer structure that will benefit pedestrians who frequently transit this area. Additionally, another bridge will be built at kilometre 15.03 to replace an existing livestock route and facilitate access to nearby bus stops. The renovation also includes improvements in connections with relevant facilities such as Airbus through adjustments to access from adjacent streets. This effort is part of a broader plan aimed at revitalising road infrastructures throughout the Community of Madrid; similar works have recently been carried out on other major roads such as the M-50 and A-5. With these significant investments, it is expected not only to improve current conditions but also to prepare the infrastructures for a future increase in vehicular traffic.
