An audacious challenge in the world of football
The businessman Enrique Riquelme, known for his leadership at Cox Energy, has decided to take an audacious step by announcing his candidacy for the presidency of Real Madrid. However, his path to leading the club is not without obstacles, as Spanish banks have denied him the necessary guarantee to formalise his candidacy.
To be able to run in the elections, Riquelme needs a guarantee that represents 15% of the club's budget, which amounts to approximately 187 million euros. Despite meeting the statutory requirements such as being a long-standing member and holding Spanish nationality, the businessman is facing refusals from local banking entities, with Banco Santander being one of the main institutions that have rejected his application.
Unwilling to give up, Riquelme has begun exploring options outside of Spain. According to recent reports, he has initiated negotiations with international banks and has received backing from Bank of Nova Scotia (Scotiabank), a Canadian entity with impressive market capitalisation. Furthermore, it is mentioned that he is in talks with an Andorran entity to complete the necessary requirements.
Despite having international support, Riquelme must comply with specific regulations. For Scotiabank to be considered valid as a guarantor before the Electoral Board of Real Madrid, it must be registered with the Bank of Spain or provide a counter-guarantee through another entity that meets this requirement. In this context, Andbank could play a crucial role by offering that additional backing.
Through a letter sent to the club's Electoral Board, Riquelme has officially expressed his intention to run as a candidate. He now has a set deadline to submit all necessary documentation before the deadline established by the electoral calendar. If he manages to meet all the required conditions and is validated by the Electoral Board, he will be able to face the current president Florentino Pérez.
As the deadline for submitting candidacies approaches, Real Madrid supporters are closely watching how this situation unfolds. The entry of new candidates always generates expectations about possible changes in the management and sporting direction of the most decorated club in Europe. The electoral race promises to be intense and full of surprises.
