The voice of experience: Iván Helguera speaks out on Real Madrid
Iván Helguera, former Real Madrid player, has shared his opinion on the current situation of the club in a recent interview with Flashscore. During the conversation, he did not hesitate to point to Álvaro Arbeloa as one of the main culprits for the problems the team is facing.
Helguera was emphatic in stating that Arbeloa has "a lot of blame" in the club's current crisis. According to him, the coach's lack of experience has led to wrong decisions that have affected the team's performance. "We cannot know if he is good or bad as a coach. Suddenly, he manages a team like Real Madrid without having proven anything before," he commented.
The former footballer also emphasised that it is not only Arbeloa who is responsible, but also those who placed him in that position. "It is evident that he has made many mistakes, but we must also question those who gave him that opportunity," he added.
Regarding possible solutions to improve the club's situation, Helguera does not see José Mourinho as the ideal candidate to return to the white bench. Although he acknowledged Mourinho's past achievements, he expressed concern over his lack of recent activity at high competitive levels. "Mou has been a great coach, but he has not trained at top level for years," he stated.
Instead of Mourinho, Helguera would back Jürgen Klopp, who has proven capable of managing diverse and successful groups. "You have to manage the group well, and that's it," he stressed.
Throughout the interview, Helguera emphasised the importance of maintaining the traditional values of Real Madrid. He assured that the club must always be an example of seriousness and competitiveness. "Real Madrid is a serious team that knows how to compete and win; it cannot afford to lose those fundamental principles," he declared.
Despite recent difficulties and two years without major titles, Helguera expressed confidence that the club will find its way again: "Real Madrid always rises again; it has gone through difficult times before and always comes back stronger."
