The Return of Julián Álvarez to the Pitch

The Argentine forward Julián Álvarez has taken a significant step towards his recovery after suffering an ankle sprain that kept him out of the match against Valencia. This Monday, before the afternoon training session, he underwent a physical test that could determine his participation in the crucial second leg of the Champions League semifinals against Arsenal.

Accompanied by the physiotherapist Oscar Pitilla, Álvarez stepped onto the field to perform specific exercises. In the first few minutes, he changed his boots and joined the rest of the team, showing positive signs regarding his physical condition. Alongside him, Giuliano Simeone, Alexander Sorloth, and José María Giménez also trained. However, the most notable absences were Nico González and Pablo Barrios, who were unable to participate in the session.

The coach of Atlético Madrid, Diego Simeone, expressed his confidence that Álvarez can perform at the highest level in this decisive match. “The first leg was very good, and I hope that tomorrow he responds as the match requires,” Simeone commented. The coach highlighted the player's experience in the Premier League, which could be a determining factor for the team's aspirations.

As this crucial encounter approaches, expectations are high for Atlético Madrid. With Julián Álvarez as one of the offensive pillars —currently the fourth top scorer with 10 goals and four assists— his performance will be vital to reach the Champions League final for the first time since 2016. The club carries the weight of history, seeking to break a negative streak after losing finals in 1974, 2014, and 2016.

Not only is Julián Álvarez becoming available again; Alexander Sorloth has also overcome his muscle discomfort and is ready to contribute to the team. “It’s extremely important. We need him a lot,” emphasized Simeone about Sorloth, who was unable to participate in the first match due to physical issues but is now prepared to contribute whether for 60, 45, or even 10 minutes.
