The PSOE spokesperson in Madrid requests a visit to the Chamberí attic that the Government will sell after a fire. The opposition criticises the lack of clarity in the purchase.
The PSOE spokesperson in the Madrid Assembly, Mar Espinar, has formally requested a meeting with the Minister of Presidency, Justice and Local Administration, Miguel Ángel García Martín, to visit the Chamberí attic that the Community of Madrid plans to sell. This property, acquired by Planifica Madrid and located on Paseo del General Martínez Campos, has an area of 480 square metres and was intended to be used as a temporary office for the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso. However, following a recent fire in the Sierra Oeste that required funds for its reconstruction, the regional Government has decided to put it up for sale along with other properties.
Espinar has argued that it is essential to know the details about this purchase and its subsequent sale. In her letter addressed to García Martín, she emphasises that citizens deserve clarity about how public resources are being used. The opposition has openly criticised what they consider a lack of transparency on the part of the regional Executive.
Óscar López, Minister for Digital Transformation and Secretary General of PSOE-M, has also commented on the matter. During a recent interview on ‘Cadena Ser’, López questioned whether this acquisition was rather a covert attempt to provide Ayuso with an official residence. He also demanded her resignation and announced that he would take the case to the courts and the Court of Auditors if the circumstances surrounding this purchase were not clarified.
The controversy is not new; last summer, the socialists requested access to the file related to another property: a chalet located next to the Guadarrama National Park. This chalet had been used by Ayuso for a weekend with her family, which raised even more doubts about the regional Government's real estate decisions.
The current situation reflects a growing discontent among opposition parties regarding how public properties are managed under the current administration. Más Madrid has also insisted on obtaining detailed information about this attic and other assets acquired by Planifica Madrid.
The debate on this issue could intensify as new local elections approach. The socialists have promised to continue pressing for accountability regarding the decisions made by the regional Government.
